God bless you,Dr.Murphree! I worked in healthcare for 26 years;the last 8 for an Ob/Gyn. I started having Fibro symptoms about mid summer of 2014. This MD was also my primary care physician & saw me once a month for chronic anxiety & depression. When I started getting sick,I kept telling him something was wrong;I had no energy, couldn’t sleep and eventually began to feel like I had the flu every day. He never bothered to do even basic labs to r/o Hypothroidism,RA,etc. I finally deteriorated to the point where I was going to work everyday with no make up and my hair pulled up. It got so bad I’d have to lie my head down on the desk in the patient rooms for a minute before I could muster the strength to call the patient back to the clinical area and get them worked up. Finally, the day before Thanksgiving 2014,at the end of the day the doctor & his wife, the administrator, called me into her office and terminated me. They had cause to do so because one day when I was working the front office,I had dozed off at the desk for a few minutes right before we started clinic back up at 2 p.m. after lunch. However,I was also falsely accused of “doing drugs,” even though he never tested me during patient treatment like he did all of his other patients that he prescribed controlled substances for. I was so taken aback that I laughed. Then the administrator violated my HIPPA rights by saying,”Well,I know you take Xanax everyday.” Apparently they thought I was staying stoned at work every day! Then after a few more insults about my appearance and work performance, that was the end of it. I went to see my parents’ family MD,and my thyroid was slightly low but my Vitamin D level was only 11.7;normal is 30 – 100. So I was probably about ready to collapse at any moment. He’s almost positive that I have Fibro, but I can’t find a Rheumatologist to see me because I have no health insurance. I’m not physically able to work so I can’t draw unemployment and have no income. I’ve lost my home of 17 years in foreclosure & I’m going to have to try to go through mental health to attempt to get SSI Disability benefits due to nearly 20 years of chronic depression anxiety. I am miserable and wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Thank God for you and your understanding of and belief in this life altering syndrome. I wish I could be evaluated by you,but I’m just thankful that you’re available here. Again,God bless you for believing in and understanding us and for trying to make others realize that we are not making this up!

  8. Sandra says:

I had a head / injury just over 4 years ago: months later i had flu like symptoms that never went away: i ws firstly diagnosed with hypothyroidism and at a later stage fibromyaglia. My an alternative therapist i was told all the symptoms i had was because the discs were out in my neck, blood flow to the organs was restricted therefor causing headaches, chronic fatigue, anxiety / panic attacks, muscle aches, cramps, depression, sleep disturbance, ibs, skin and food intolerances ect ect….the list is endless.however my question is: does fibromyagia cause a person to be low in magnesium and calcium or vise versa? as the symptoms are the quite the same.

wow that was good to hear. I have been suffering for many many years. a car accident was the initial onset at age 18. I am 65 and the past 3 surgeries I had 3 years in a row threw me into full blown Fibro in 2011. I had to stop working. I held a prominent position and had to give it all up. I have been to all kinds of specialists over the past 4 years and because the meds they prescribed gave me bad side effects they wanted nothing to do with me. The relief I get now is vitamin B’s, triple strength Magnesium, Multi minerals, turmeric and Pain meds. I get a small amount of relief but at least it helps somewhat.

I’ve had fibromyalgia gm for 26 yrs. Loooog before anyone ever even heard of it so I have been dealing with non-believers for what seems like forever including doctors. The one who diagnosed me was a very young doctor in an Urgent Care facility. I had no insurance and was just dying. My back was literally every inch, a knot. He was great. Listened to me and came up with my long awaited answer. The only one who gets it is my mom. My ex didn’t believe it for one second of our 13 yrs together. Told me it was all in my head. Power of positive thinking s#*%. It was horrible. I would clean what I could and he would say “well why didn’t you do this?” Annoying

I hate it ,it has taken my quality of life.i am not able to do the things u used to do even with medication.i tired all the time.i work a full time job some days are better than others .it’s worse when it rains or the cold weather comes.i hate when people say u look fine well I’m not and I hate it

  13. Denise says:

Thank you, Dr Murphree for all that you do for the sufferers of this disorder.

Because of you I keep my fibro fairly in check by keeping my vitamin and mineral levels where they need to be. Just hard to do when I don’t have money to buy the supplements.

Hopefully I get a job so I can get the 5-HTP again as I feel that helped a great deal. Truly, and I owe it to you for recommending it.

  14. Cookie Lewis says:
